In my last couple of articles in the Life of Love series, Feyma had arrived in the States. From day one she was experiencing a lot of things that were new to her. As I pointed out a couple of articles back, on the way home from the airport, which was in the dead of winter, she asked me why all the trees were dead. They weren’t really dead, they had just lost their leaves for the winter! This is not something that happens in the Philippines!
As we progressed through our life together in the USA, there were always so many new things. First time to go here, first time to go there. It was always interesting and fun for each of us. Seeing Feyma discover new things was a joy, and I enjoyed being part of it.
Of course, right from the beginning of her move, it was a totally new experience because she arrived in the early days of January, and it was 6 degrees Fahrenheit outside. She had never experienced winter before. Probably the coldest temperature she had ever felt before that time was around 75 degrees. That was a real shock for her!
Feyma lived in the United States for a total of 10 years. For the entire time, one of our favorite things to do was to jump in the car and just go for a ride. We never really knew where we would go, we would just wander and end up wherever the road took us. We would see a lot of new things and places. That was fun for each of us, and new things were always interesting to see and experience.
Feyma has always been a fruit lover. Of course, the Philippines has so many fruits, but they are tropical fruits, which are delicious. But, in the USA the fruits are different than in the Philippines. That is good and bad. Good because it gave her a chance to try new things. Bad because it left her really missing fruits that she loved in the Philippines. A double-edged sword! One thing was for sure when we would make a visit back to the Philippines, she always ate as many of her old favorites as possible.
When it comes to fruits and combine it with going for rides, during the proper seasons we used to love going up to Mt. Hood, and also to Yakima, Washington. We lived in the Portland, Oregon area, so these were fairly nearby. In both of those places, you could get some great fruit. Up on Mt. Hood, the big crop up there is Apples. Over around Yakima, there are many fruits grown there, but the thing we always seemed to buy a lot of was the Peaches. We both loved them and had many uses for them. Eat them fresh, make a cobbler, or whatever! They were great. Whenever we would go to either of these areas, we had fun and came back with a real bounty of fruits!
Our time in the States was great, and we enjoyed life, enjoyed each other, and grew together. As is obvious now to anybody reading this, we no longer live in the States. If we loved it so much, why did we leave and come to live in the Philippines? Well, that will be addressed as the story moves on!
I hope you are enjoying my Life of Love series! I am enjoying the memories that they bring back to me as I write!
