Twenty books in one year? That is a big, big order. Much more than that, I think I am going to try to accomplish this in only 3 months or so!
As I told you last week, I have set up a series of 4 “Business Resolutions” for the new year, 2013, and this is the first one on my list.
I’ve been procrastinating on this for a few months now. I got motivated to do this several months ago. It’s not about the number of books, but I got an idea for a series of e-books that I need to put out. These are for topics that I deal with every single day, but I want to put them into book format instead of what I am currently doing.
The idea that struck me a few months ago includes not only what topic I should write on, but also a marketing strategy for this series of books. The marketing strategy is something totally different than what I am doing now in marketing my current e-books. In fact, this marketing method that I have on my mind is different than any other e-book writer that I am aware of anywhere in the world. I had to laugh when this comes to my mind, because it is so simple, yet nobody else is doing it, at least nobody that I am aware of. In addition, I believe that using the marketing method that I have in mind, it will produce a lot of sales. I am quite excited about this, but I won’t be sharing the idea fully as of now, because it is so unique, I don’t want anybody to take my idea and run with it until after I have implemented it first.
I do believe that like so many other things in my businesses, once people see this marketing in action, it will be copied by many people. I simply see people do that kind of thing with so many of the things that I do!
I have a conundrum
Yes, there is one part of this new idea that is presenting me with a challenge. I am debating whether I should publish these e-books under Amazon’s Kindle program, or in the traditional way that I have already been publishing e-books for years now.
My current method of publishing and selling e-Books is done through E-Junkie. They handle the shopping cart and also the downloads of the books sold. It has been very successful since I started using e-Junkie several years ago, and I have been very happy with it. From time to time, though, people ask me why my books are not available through Amazon, in the Kindle format. Personally, I am not really sold on Kindle, I must admit. Yes, I know that Kindle format books can be read using other devices. In fact, I have Amazon Kindle software installed on my Smartphone and on my Android Tablet. I read a few Kindle books on these devices.
However, I find that there are a number of hurdles when it comes to publishing for the Kindle. Yes, I also believe that the market of buyers is bigger through Amazon, but I wonder if it is worth the extra work. Not only is it more work, but I also have to cut Amazon in for a percentage of the profits earned. Right now, I pay E-Junkie a flat fee per month (under $20), and that covers the sales of as many books as I can sell. It is cheap and convenient.
So, my leaning is to stay with publishing through E-Junkie and forget about the Kindle. However, I am curious about how many books I could sell on the Kindle platform. Because of my curiosity, I will likely do a test with a few books on the Kindle platform and see how they do. If sales are great, I will be likely to move all of my books to Kindle. If sales are the same as I am already doing, or less, then it’s a no-brainer, I would stick with what I am doing now.
There is a third choice to consider as well, though. I can publish on both platforms. It all depends on how sales are for the Kindle, though.
So, if you are somebody who writes e-books too, or if you are thinking of doing it, watch for the next couple of months and see what my marketing strategy is. You may not notice my new twist immediately, but watch closely and you may catch what I am up to! I predict it will be a big success for me.

I think that this is a great idea. I may borrow it as well. I have an idea for a series of short books (based on my previous work).
I have done well with Amazon and reasonably well with Amazon Kindle. Are you aware of KDP Select. It is a way to earn additional money from Amazon by giving them sole access to the book for a specific time period of, I believe, 90 days. I have not tried that yet, but think I would with these books. There is a maximum amount that you can price your book at, but the theory is that you make it up in volume.

Hi Tom – thanks for your input, I appreciate it greatly. I have a few things in mind regarding kindle publishing and one of them is involving that program where you publish exclusively on Amazon. I will try to drop you are private email about this in the next day or two.

Good deal. I will be interested to see what you have to say. 🙂
