Recently, I wrote a series of posts here on Ways to Make a Living blog about a project that I had completed. The project was something I called my “need for speed” project, and it was focused on speeding up my various websites. Really, the ultimate goal was to increase the scores I was getting on my “Google Scorecard”. A few months back, Google began giving a scorecard for AdSense publishers, grading them on several different tasks. I was doing pretty good on my scorecard, except in one category.
Site Health
Where was I suffering? Site Health. As Google described it, it seemed that Site Health was mostly focused on the speed of your site. Slow sites were rated badly, fast sites got good scores. Let me just say that I was not rating well, and I knew that my sites were too slow. In most cases, my Site Health score was only 1 star out of 5. Not good. I figured that if I fixed my site speed problem and got my Site Health score to a more respectable level, my AdSense earnings may increase, something that I badly wanted to accomplish.
My Score
As I said, my score for site health was a horrific 1 out of 5, indicating that I really needed to make improvements. I made changes that you can check in my 5 articles on the topic:
- My new project – a series of posts
- Need for Speed project
- Implementing caching on my sites
- I want more!
- Speed? Do you want speed?
So, have the changes I made had any effect on my score for Site Health? You better believe it! I went from a score of 1 up to my new rating that just happened yesterday… 5 out of 5! Yes, a perfect score!
Well, there is always room for improvement, but this new score of 5 out of 5 has me excited and watching to see improvements in my AdSense earnings. I hope to see those kinds of results coming soon! For now, though, I am just savoring the great new score that showed up on my scorecard yesterday!
So, the title of this article is “Success?” Was I successful? Only in an interim way. Part of my goal was to raise my score for site health, and I was certainly successful on that. But, my ultimate goal was to increase my AdSense earnings. We’ll have to wait and see if success happens on that front!
