Today, I am happy to bring you the first Virtual Earner Podcast! In this podcast, I talk with my friend, Dave Starr regarding doing business online, and particularly about the Web Hosting Business.
I have been thinking of getting into the Web Hosting Business myself, and have even begun to set it up. I have a server, and really I have everything necessary to be successful in the business, so why not do it? It’s just another business that I can start up with virtually no additional costs involved, yet some nice income potential!
Give it a listen by clicking on the “Play” arrow below, and let me know what you think!
Cathy
Hi Bob! I can relate so much to when you said that there are business ideas that you get so keen about then the next day ditch it for this reason and that. I got so many business ideas particularly bec I’m based now in Gensan that I think would really be good.
Bob
Hi Cathy – Let’s talk about some of your ideas! I’d be happy to give you an ear to bounce your ideas off! And, I promise, I won’t steal any of your ideas! 😆
Tom Nixon
Run, Cathy, Run!!! 🙂

By the way, Bob, the podcasts you are now doing seem to be turning out really well. I know I listen to them all the way through. I suspect that I am not alone. One thing I like about them is that you have worked to make them as professional as is possible. Some of the podcasts I’ve listened to are clearly not done well.
Bob
Hi Tom – Thank you very much for that! I am only a beginner when it comes to working with audio, but hopefully I can learn more as I go along and keep improving! My main goal is to provide informative content!
Eric
Bob so are you webhosting your own site then? This is a good home-based business idea especially in the Philippines.
Bob
Hi Eric – I have a server which I lease through a US based company. Yes, I do believe that this could be a good home-based business for somebody! Hopefully me! 😆
Eric
Hi Bob. But how come you are still paying around US$200 a month (I remember you mentioned it on your LIP site) for your website? Dont worry Bob, if I ever venture in web hosting business when I retire, Mindanao is yours but Luzon is mine :)..LOL
jenaisle
That would something to venture into.
Bob
Hi Eric – Why am I paying around $200 per month? Actually, I pay around double that amount now. I have to pay it to rent the server itself, for the Internet bandwidth that I use, the electricity to run it, the connection to the net, etc. It’s not cheap!
Bob
Hi jenaisle – Yep, it could be profitable!
Eric
Hi Bob – So wouldnt be cheaper to just have your website hosted by an ISP? I’ve realized that I would need a lot of learning about webhosting busines eg. badwidth, etc.
Bob
Hi Eric – The reason I pay $400 per month for a server is because a regular web hosting account like you are mentioning can’t handle sites like what I have. Some of my sites get several million hits per day! I used to host on a regular ISP account years ago, but if I did it today, my sites would be offline more than online, due to loading the servers too much. It’s not a matter of just wanting to spend the money…. I don’t have a choice due to the popularity of some of my sites.
Patrick
“Some of my sites get several million hits per day!” WOW that’s a great ADSENSE Bob! By the way I’m from Bislig, now based in Manila. Have a nice day.
Bob
Hi Patrick – welcome to my site! I’ve been to Bislig before – in 2006 right after the big fire there.
Yes, AdSense earnings are nice, but you always want more, right? 😆
andrew
hey bob would you be interested in investing in a real small buss. that im trying to start in cebu i am starting a server but also a computer service here im from the us but have been living here in cebu almost 5 years and have 2 sons here. i need a small investor with a small amount of capital. contact me if you are interested [email protected]
Bob
Thanks for the offer, andrew, but to be honest, I have plenty of my own projects to consume my money! 😆
Eric
Hi Bob – With that number of daily hits, you can put more ads on your website/s and make more cash.
Bob
Hi Eric – Yeah, I do make a good living from ads on my sites. I don’t want to put more, the ones that I already have do well for me.
Karl
Hey Thats Great Bob!
if you do hosting, well., we might have our site transfer to your server., you know what this time we really have problem loading our site coz the one we hosted had tons of sites already., this could be the answer., who knows;)
Bob
Hi Karl – You would be most welcome to host with me! I can assure you of this – there won’t be any problems with loading your site on my server.
Nat
Hello, Bob. I want to listen to the podcast you mention at the top of this page, but do not see any play button? I’ve loaded this page in 2 browsers (internet explorer and google chrome), but still don’t see it. Perhaps it was taken down? Also, one person who replied to the podcast on this page mentions other podcasts you’ve done…I would love to listen to those as well. Are they still online somewhere? (url?)
Also, I tried to buy one of your virtual earner e-books, but the “add to cart” and “view car” buttons/links didn’t take me anywhere (I was still on the same page advertising the books). I know you mentioned changing shopping cart services. Are those e-books still available?
Thanks for all that you post. I bought and got a lot from your “49 Ways…”
Thanks again,
Nat
Bob Martin
Hi Nat – Thank you for visiting my site. I am sorry, but when I migrated this site to it’s current domain, that podcast didn’t make the move! Very sorry about that.
I have a variety of podcasts on my other site, though, Live in the Philippines Web Magazine. You can find many podcasts by clicking here. Be sure to click into the article to find the actual podcast, that link will only show you a listing of articles with podcasts.
I am sorry you had trouble with the “add to cart” on the books! It was working just fine, people were buying books… so I checked it out and got the same problem you told me about! Don’t worry, though, I have fixed it now, so it is working fine. Not sure what happened… I guess the gremlins got in there! 😆
Thank you again, Nat! Take care.
