About 3 years ago, I started selling an online course.
That course is still available. It is my Bisaya Language course, and I offer it as a download, a DVD that is shipped to your house, and also as an online course.
I offer the online course in two different ways, you can pay monthly, or you can pay a discounted price as a single payment and have full access to the course. If you pay monthly payments, you get access to 4 more lessons each month.
The course has done well for me. I like it better when people pay the lower price to get full lifetime access instead of the monthly payments. Two reasons that I prefer the one-time payment:
- I get a large lump sum of money all at once.
- The monthly payments can be a hassle because a fair amount of time the customer’s credit card is declined for the monthly charge, and you have to run it multiple times over the next days or weeks.
So, as you can imagine, the monthly payments can be a hassle. But, on the other hand, the monthly payments are low ($15.99/month) so just about anybody can afford it. Some people might not have $160 (the full price) at one time, so the monthly payments work out better for them. I said in my last post that I don’t like to leave money on the table, this is just another example.
Like with my other eCommerce sales, I offer my online courses with payments through Paypal or 2Checkout. Both methods work great for me.
Check out my earlier article where I talk about getting paid through Paypal and 2Checkout for eCommerce sales. The information there is exactly the same as what you can expect for online course sales!
