Our son, Chris, works at Tyson Foods
It is his first job!
Not long after moving back to the States, I wrote an article here about our son, Chris. Read the article, you might find it uplifting. If you are wondering why we decided to move back to the States (I get that question every day), that article will give you a big part of the reason.
Chris, and my wife, Feyma, started working for Tyson foods on February 5, 2019. Both of them are doing great at Tyson!
Because of Chris’s disability, we never really thought he would be able to get a job anywhere. We sure are happy that he has found a good fit, though, when it comes to work!
In fact, when this week’s Tyson newspaper came out, it had an article about Chris! More on that a bit later.
Is Chris popular at Tyson?
Is he popular? It is unbelievable. Wherever we go around town, it seems that everybody knows Chris! Even though we have only lived here in Logansport for less than 6 months, Chris has a lot of friends!
If you want to go shopping in Logansport, you will likely end up at Walmart. Logansport is a small town, and Walmart is “where it’s at” in terms of shopping. Whenever we go to Walmart, I always tease Chris, asking him “how many people will we see who know you?”.
And, the truth is, we will usually see a dozen or more people who know Chris. They like him so much that if they see him from a distance they will come over to say hi, give him a “high five” and just generally enjoy talking with him for a few minutes. It is very heartwarming.
In fact, if we go to Kokomo, about a 30-minute drive from Logansport, invariably, Chris will still run into people that he knows there, people who work at Tyson!
Chris is one of the reasons I love Tyson
Because Tyson has treated Chris so well, I really have a very good feeling toward the company. They did not have to hire Chris, but they did. They have also always treated him with respect and treated Chris no differently than any other team member.
That is awesome, and I appreciate that very much.
The Lao New Year
A few months ago, we went to a celebration of the Lao New Year. It was, of course, put on by the Lao community here. Tyson was a sponsor, and as Tyson is probably the #1 major employer in Logansport, many people from Laos work there, and Tyson was a sponsor of their New Year celebration.
When we went to the Lao New Year celebration, again, it seemed like half of the crowd knew Chris, and loved him! Like a big family!
What about that News article?
Yes, a few weeks ago, Chris came home from work and told me that he had been interviewed for an article that would be in the Tyson Newspaper! I was surprised and wondered just exactly what that was all about.
The person who is locally responsible for putting together the news for Tyson had met Chris, I think in the Cafeteria and came to like him. He decided that it would be a nice feature for the newspaper, so he decided to interview Chris.
Yesterday, the article came out. There is a picture of Chris with his “big boss” Matt. Chris considers Matt to be a friend, and Matt has been very helpful to Chris in guiding him, training him, and just being his buddy. I thank Matt for that!
Here is a copy of the article. I scanned it and have reproduced it below. Read and enjoy!

Really happy to see Chris blossoming and getting along so well. And kudos to Tyson for being o[en minded and getting the most out each of their employees.
Lots of people who don’t understand the opportunities available to Chris in the USA, compared with the slim to none opportunities in the Philippines will never understand your family move … but those of us who have had the opportunity to meet and get to know Chris a little understand things perfectly.
Good on you, Chris, Here’s to your continued success.
Bob Martin
Hi Dave, yes, for sure, there is a lot of opportunity for Chris here in the States, and he seems to be doing all he can to take advantage of that! I am so proud of him. You know what? I think that we have yet to see the full potential and the accomplishments that Chris will achieve in the years to come!

Congrats to Chris. For those who wonder why you moved back to the USA this will illustrate one of the reasons why. I remember you moved to The Philippines for family reasons and now you have come back to the USA for family reasons. I agree that there are more opportunities for Chris here and I am sure his career at Tyson will continue to excell.
Bob Martin
Hi Bob! Thank you for your comment. Yes, you are correct, there are so many opportunities for Chris here, and that makes us very happy!
